Trouble

DSCN1946

If this face doesn’t say “trouble”, I don’t know what does.  Looks like he’s beginning to take after his namesake….

Fifteen months

 Hey, Zane!

Me?

Yes, you with the dirty collar. Will you sit here so that I can take your 15 month pictures…..11 days late?

Here, Mom?DSCN1988

Yep. Right there.

Well, I guess…but, there’s a lot of other things I could be doing, ya know. DSCN1991

Like what, little boy?

First of all, this blanket is soooo soft. I need to rub my face on it for a minute. Can you still see me?

DSCN1979And sitting is not my style. I’d much rather be standing.

DSCN1981 See those toys over there? I need to go play with them.

DSCN1983 And my shoe is coming off. Can we fix that?

DSCN1984

Ok, Mom. Your thirty seconds is up. See ya later!

And so goes “Raising Zane”. He’s a handful. And that’s an understatement. I love 15 months.

He sleeps all night, most nights. And I’m talking 10 to 12 hours! PRAISE THE LORD! He takes a ~2hr nap in the morning and may or may not take an afternoon nap.

His new word is “hot”. He whispers it and you can’t really hear the “t”.  The impressive part is that he understands the concept of hot. He says it when we light candles, turn on the stove, take a drink of coffee, etc.

He likes to “smell” flowers and candles. Instead of breathing in, he blows out. He scrunches up his nose, pokes out his lips, and points to whatever he wants to smell.

He cries whenever I, DeeDee, or Nana Beth walk out of the room.

He loves to wave and smile at EVERYONE! And he won’t stop until he gets a response.

He really likes wearing hats. He tries to put them on himself, then fusses until we put it on him.

He sticks out his tongue when asked where his tongue is and pretends to blow his nose when asked where his nose is. He also takes his paci out when his dad says, “Zane, take that paci out of your mouth!”

He says “Lola” as soon as we pull into DeeDee & Skeet’s driveway.

He leans down and gives the dogs hugs. Sometimes he’ll give us hugs when we ask for them.

He would live outside. Hot, cold, rain, or shine.

If he has to be inside the house, he’d prefer to be in the bathtub. He helps take his shirt off and hikes his leg up on the side of the tub, trying to get in. He sticks his head under the running water, puts his face in the water, lays on his belly and looks like he’s doing the breaststroke (puts one ear in the water then the other.) Laughs when I lay him on his back to rinse his hair. But he’d rather I just dump a big ole cup of water on his head. That’s Hi.Larious. to him.

He loves to go in and out of the shower. Over and over again. Once he’s inside, with the door closed, he waves at us until we acknowledge him.

He loves chocolate. :)  The other night I told him, “No, we can’t have Cadbury Mini Eggs right now. It’s bedtime.” I took the bag and put it back on the counter. As I carried him to his room, he literally stuck his hand IN MY MOUTH to make sure I didn’t get one!  What a toot head. Kinda made me feel guilty for eating some after he went to bed….

We love you, Zane Tumnus Bear.

i scream, you scream, we all scream for…

 ICE CREAM!

DSC_0010Today was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The three of us went to Wye Mountain to see the daffodils. (Pics to come) Then we ate on the back deck at Casa Manana. Zane was perfect. Not a single fit. And Lady Luck, she was on his side.DSCN1903

DSCN1899 Just as we got out of the truck, we heard, “Ding, ding, ding!” The ice cream truck! Why not? He was already pretty dirty, but I wanted to at least spare the white shirt. So off it came! He enjoyed his push pop. I think he enjoyed being dirty even more.  And he was a pretty big fan of the neighbors’ new dog, Abby.

Denver

DSCN1755Don’t let those “smiles” fool you. None of us were very happy on the plane. Zane does NOT know the meaning of ‘sitting’, so keeping him in our laps was like wrestling a greased pig. Luckily, he fell asleep during take-off on three out of the four flights and slept the whole way.

DSCN1754

In fact, I’m pretty sure the only time he smiled was when he was laughing at me because I had a white, paper bag on my face and was making funny noises….

Life long motion sickness + Migraine = Barf Bag City

On a less gross note, Zane was amazed by the fans blowing on him.DSCN1753Matt had his last (Thank You, Lord) interview in Denver and we decided to make a little trip out of it and pay a visit to Seth and Laurie. Somehow, I didn’t get ONE picture of Z with them!  It was great to catch up and we were thankful that they let us stay with them. I’m pretty sure Zane served as a good method of birth control for them!

Surprisingly, Zane loved the Aquarium. He met Scuba Steve….DSCN1770 Then decided to see how he would look in scuba gear…DSCN1792He looooved the ducks and thought it was pretty funny when I made ‘fish lips’. He would open and close his mouth like he was trying to imitate me.DSCN1763 DSCN1779DSCN1777

This picture of Zane and Matt says so much…..DSCN1772The end of the aquarium came at the perfect time. While Zane loved it, the attention of a 1 year old only lasts so long….

One cute boy

DSCN1737

Zane has finally figured out what this camera-thing is all about. Matt got him dressed yesterday and he looked so cute…couldn’t resist taking his picture.  I sat him down. No lie, he started posing. Oh, fun stuff. He just tickles me! Check out his poses.

DSCN1736DSCN1738DSCN1739Why is he not on the cover of Parents Magazine yet? I so should’ve sent his picture in to Regis & Kelly.   He really is cute, right? There’s no way this mom could be partial…

Fourteen months

DSCN1680As long as I post before he turns fifteen months, it still counts, right? And that’s still 16 days away. Which is more than half a month. So if you round down, I’m still closer to fourteen than fifteen months. The months seem to go by so quickly these days. He’s really starting to look like a little boy in his pictures now.

He’s learned how to get out of the chair now. Turn around, lay on his belly, and go feet first. Great that he falls less. Not so great for pictures.  (Note the arm holding him in place)

fourteen months

Some things he’s doing this month…. He kinda chuckles when he sees someone he recognizes. Like a deep “huh huh”.  When I tell him to tell someone hi, he waves and usually gives sheepish grin.  He carries around our phones, or anything similar to a phone, holds it up to his ear, and walks around saying, “Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh.”  When I wiggle my fingers like I’m about to tickle him, he grins really big and starts wiggling his fingers, too.

DSCN1674

Even though Matt insists that this is my blog and not our blog, I like to get some input from him. Maybe someday Zane will want to read this stuff, and he might want to know what his dad was thinking, too. So, from Matt, “Zane is a head injury waiting to happen, but he is wonderfully entertaining and I love him so much.”

That’s good stuff, coming from Matt. Pretty sure he’s had a head injury or two in his day. But it’s true. The knot that Zane got in KC is still present. As soon as it starts to heal he re-injures it. Somehow, every time he falls, he manages to hit that exact.same.spot. Every.darn.time. I texted Matt today and asked him if we should get Zane a helmet. I was (sorta) kidding. Ok, I was totally serious. I am determined that it will be healed my the time I take his fifteen month pictures. Or at least by his Aunt Lindsey’s wedding. May 29th. Surely….by then?

We took him to the park for the first time the other day. Our neighborhood park just doesn’t really have enough stuff for kiddos as small as him. He hated swinging. Loved climbing the stairs. And he was ok with the slide. But oh, so cute. Oh, and he loves sticks. I’m sure that’s an accident waiting to happen.
